For the winter season, Helsinki’s historic market halls and surrounding city spaces were transformed with a warm and atmospheric seasonal lighting concept. Capital Creative created the visual concepts, storytelling and lighting programming for the Old Market Hall, Hakaniemi Market Hall, Hietalahti Market Hall and the Teurastamo chimney. Capital AV delivered the full technical production.

Each location was designed with its own identity, taking inspiration from the architecture, history and surroundings of the site. The Old Market Hall drew from its seaside location with flowing blue tones and wave-like movement, Hakaniemi Market Hall reflected the area’s evolving urban story, Hietalahti Market Hall was given a warmer and calmer visual atmosphere, while the Teurastamo chimney referenced the industrial heritage of the area with a transition from warm, fire-like tones into colder winter shades.

By combining architectural lighting, gobos, animation wheels and carefully programmed movement, the project turned familiar city landmarks into living surfaces of light — creating a cohesive visual story across Helsinki during the darkest part of the year.
